Ngā Mōkai Papakāinga is situated at Karioi in the Ruapehu district and serves as a home for the descendants of Ngāti Tongaiti, a hapū of Ngāti Rangi.
Our papakāinga’s primary purpose is to support hui and wānanga, advancing the cultural, spiritual, physical, educational, and recreational wellbeing of our uri.
About Us

Nau mai haere mai ki tenei wharangi mo Nga Uri o Ngã Mokai Papakãinga. Our Papakãinga is located on the corner of Oruakukuru and Whangaehu Valley roads, Karioi.
This is a whanau marae belonging to the descendents of eight ancestors.
They are Hinurewa Whakapu, Arama Tinirau, Mania Te Rongonui, Taiwiri Paamu, Haana Ruiha, Ihaka Rerekura, Kapitorina Rerekura and Matene Te Riaki.
We affiliate to the hap of Ngāti Tongaiti of Ngãti Rangi. We are managed by a group of trustees appointed by descendents.
Ko Te Turi o Murimotu te maunga, ko Te Tokiahuru te awa, ko Whakarongo te wharepuni, ko Te Reo Pohiri te wharekai.


Marae Facilities

Marae Hireage includes:
- Wharepuni: Whakarongo
- Wharekai: Te Reo Pōhiri
- Whareiti: Ablution Bloc
Additional Areas include:
- Urupā: Cemetery (access restricted)
- Whare Karakia: No entry permitted.
- Storage Shed: No entry permitted without express written permission from marae trustees.
